ICMR positioning itself as public health research institution

DHR will establish model rural health research units in every state that will bring technology to the people, Katoch said. ICMR is funding close to 600 new research projects every year, he said. "The funding is gradually improving and it is worth Rs 750 crore now. There is a 25 per cent jump in funding every year. The government support is good and the challenge is now to expand the pool of scientists working in several ICMR-run institutes," Katoch said. To a query on the death of over 30 children in Muzaffarpur of Bihar recently, he said "Japanese Encephalitis (JE) was not confirmed in them (deaths). However, we are trying to take the autopsy specimen and details will be known by tomorrow."
