Apollo Hospitals Signs JV Agreement With Tanzania Government to Start a Hospital

Apollo Hospitals Tanzania will be a 250 bedded super-speciality hospital offering world class healthcare services.

Apollo Group of Hospitals, a leading integrated private healthcare provider in Asia is setting up a state-of-the-art tertiary care hospital in Dar es salaam in partnership with National Social Security Fund, Tanzania and Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, Govt of Tanzania. Apollo Hospitals, Tanzania will be a 250-bedded super-speciality hospital offering world class healthcare services.

Equipped with the latest medical technology and manned by healthcare experts this hospital aims to become a healthcare destination of choice for Africa. Apollo brings with it the experience of having setup over 50 hospitals, 1200 pharmacies, telemedicine, training and educational institutions, medical research, healthcare IT etc. Apart from offering healthcare of global standards this hospital shall train local human resources to take up critical clinical, technical and management positions.

This hospital in Dar es salaam will provide the impetus for further growth in Africa," said Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group.

The hospital is being set up in partnership with National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of Tanzania. NSSF shall provide the infrastructure required for the hospital and support all local requirements in terms of logistics. Dr R Dau, Director General, NSSF signed the joint venture agreement on behalf of NSSF.
Blandina Nyoni, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health & Social Welfare was the third signatory to the joint venture agreement. The ministry will facilitate all the processes for setting up and operating the hospital and will also monitor clinical quality once operational.

The joint venture agreement was signed in the presence of Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India and Jakaya Kikwete, President of Tanzania. Dr Singh said, “Apollo has created a revolution in healthcare in India, I am glad that Dr Reddy is here in Tanzania to bring in revolutionary changes in Tanzanian healthcare”. Speaking on the occasion. Kikwete, said, “Apollo Hospitals will help Tanzania in bringing high end healthcare to the people of Tanzania. It will help in building capacity in our healthcare system and also train our medical professionals. This is only the beginning and I hope to see another four Apollo Hospitals across Tanzania and Zanzibar”.
