Pathfinder Health to invest 1 mn pounds for India foray

NEW DELHI: Primary healthcare provider Pathfinder Health India today said it will invest 1 million pounds to commence operations in the country this fiscal, including the establishment of twelve family medicine centres in Delhi.

The money will be used for opening the 12 centres, a central office and for training healthcare professionals, the company said.

"We have raised 1 million pounds through the angel investment mode for redesigning primary healthcare and have not taken any money from banks or venture capitalists," Pathfinder Health India Pvt Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Niti Pall told PTI here.

The company plans to open its first centre at Janakpuri, in West Delhi, on October 8.

The company aims to introduce the General Practioner model employed in the UK's National Health Service (NHS) system across India.

"In the next phase, we plan to launch 145 'Health India' family medicines centres across India in next five years. Once the protocols are established and global quality and governance norms have been established, franchising could be a major opportunity," she added.

The company is already in talks with leading investors for funding the later expansion, she added, but did not disclose their names.

To make the concept a success, the company is already in the process of training doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants, Pathfinder Health said.

"Ours will be an affordable model. The consultation charges will be between Rs 150-300 for first-time consultation charges and the next two cogitations will be free," Pall said.

The Health India centres will also sell basic generic medicines so that the patients receive only the necessary medicines, she added.

In the next phase, the company will open the family medicine centres in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Amritsar and Rewari.

"The model we will follow when cascading to tier-II, tier-III cities will be the hub-and-spoke model," Pall said.
