XLRI joins hands with Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL) to embark on a new initiative in the healthcare domain

Jamshedpur: Based on a unique partnership model, XLRI Jamshedpur, one of the top Business Schools in the country, has joined hands with Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL), the flagship Company of Apollo Hospitals Group, to announce a one year full time residential programme in healthcare domain titled 'Executive Diploma in General Management & Health Care (ExD-GMH)' for the aspiring students of the country.

The program, which kicks-off in March 2012, has been designed and developed jointly by renowned faculty of XLRI Jamshedpur as well as senior representatives from Apollo Group with an objective to provide competency-based education to eligible candidates to promote Health Care Management. Under this programme, 28 courses will be taught in one year divided into four terms, and will be jointly taught by faculties from XLRI and Apollo Group for 480 hours and 270 hours respectively. During the course, students will have to go through a compulsory one month internship in healthcare industry.

Selection process
Graduates from any recognized university and in any discipline with minimum of three years of experience after graduation can apply for this program. Aspiring candidates will have to appear for a written test, to be conducted at the seven selected centers of Apollo, followed by interviews at XLRI campus. After successful completion of the program the students will be awarded certificates jointly by XLRI and Apollo Group during the graduation ceremony in the XLRI Jamshedpur campus. Also, in this program, executives from various sectors will get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with an in-depth knowledge of the latest developments in management education, besides enabling them to interact with participants from different work cultures and personal experiences.

Announcing the development, Fr. E. Abraham, S.J. (Director) said that, 'We are delighted to introduce this Executive Diploma in General Management & Health Care in association with Apollo Hospitals Group. This alliance with AHEL will provide a plethora of opportunities for those aspirants planning to pursue a career in healthcare industry".

'The need for professionally trained hospital managers is being increasingly felt in Indian hospitals, whether private or public. As per CII report, employment in healthcare is expected to increase by at least 2.5 million by 2012. Therefore, this program will help in creating management professionals with domain knowledge and will offer ample career opportunities in both the management and health care sector either in a business role or a functional role' he added.

AHEL and XLRI have also partnered to promote leadership and management education for AHEL employees by introducing a one year 'Postgraduate Certificate in General Management'. A total of fourteen subjects will be covered under this programme along with one final project work. The course has been designed and developed as per the requirement of AHEL and will be organised through live interactive session for 210 hours using video conferencing system. After completion of this course, candidates will have to submit a report and will have to work on a project for 140 hours. During this programme, students will have to visit XLRI campus once for five days which is entitled as campus component.
