Volunteer Program Manager
The International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS (IAPA) is a non-profit organization committed to working with local communities to provide fact based, community based HIV/STI education to the communities of Chennai and peripheral district. Each year, IAPA hosts an annual Summer Volunteer Program (SVP), which brings American students to Chennai to work with local organizations and counterparts to assist in providing HIV/STI education. IAPA is currently looking for a Volunteer Program Manager, who will oversee the implementation of the SVP for 2009.



Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Managerial position, supervising 2 volunteer coordinators and 22 US volunteers for 8 week volunteer program
  • Oversees operation of SVP, including school based & community based teachings and ensuring effective implementation of SVP
  • Works with volunteer coordinators to ensure needs of US volunteers are met
  • Works with India staff to ensure needs of Chennai counterparts are met, to coordinate daily and weekly teaching schedules, and to oversee development and progress of volunteer extra projects
  • Works with schools and community partners to ensure teaching needs and objectives are being met Strengthening system and procedure for M&E Setting up conference call between office(India and USA)
  • Documenting the progress and submitting at the end of SVP Other task as assigned by Executive Directors and In-Country Director.
Minimum education required:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or related fieldDesired: Master's Degree in Social Science or related field.
Minimum experience required:- Minimum 1 year managerial experience
Technical skill required:
- Experience in managing volunteers
- Capable of multi tasking and working in fast paced environment
- Capable of working with multi culture and multinational group
- Knowledge of HIV/STI
- Experience with disciplining procedures
- Written and oral communication in English and Tamil(oral) are a must
- Strong liasion skill
- Knowledge of computer application
- A team player with training and mentoring skills and experience working in a team
Special condition: This position includes travel approximately 50%
Compensation: Compensation level at IAPA are equivalent to market rates within the development sector.
